Mid June already ! I hope everyone in the North is ready for summer, and those in the south are staying warm as things cool things down again.
Irrespective of the changing seasons, the Personalization team are continuing their amazing efforts to build even more valuable functionality, and resulting value for our valued Platform Users.
Major updates for this release:
Site Article Report
As a Content owner, you want to know which articles generate the most consumption across all site modules to get a better understanding of content performance. Right next to your Article Performance report is yet another new report - Site Article Performance. The intent of the new report is thus: irrespective of module, which articles generate the most engagement across the entire site ?
Sortable by Impressions, Clicks and CTR, you can now gain site-wide performance analysis. Whilst in Cxense Insight, you can see a list of top performing articles by consumption, this report showcases those consumed via your personalized modules.
From a editorial curation standpoint, this should be especially interesting, as there is no pre-determination of what content is selected for presentation to each user.
For manually curated content delivery, the resulting performance is tied to the ease of access, size & positioning of page elements, such as a large homepage feature. This is especially pertinent for an Author whose story gets bumped from the 'top spot' due to breaking news - they miss out on the exposure enjoyed from the main homepage modules. Other Authors may not even make the top spot position at all, even though their content may have some mass appeal...
When a broader selection of content is available to the audience, which articles enjoy increase performance ? This will provide a more organic or natural reflection of Audience interests and consumption habits across the site or app.
New Metrics for A|B Modules
Great news for Evolve Module users - all new metrics are now included on the trend report to provide further detail into metric trends. Clicks, CTR, and Visible CTR are now added !
Aggregates are powerful, though understanding the interplay of the metric over time helps further insights into how the aggregates were generated over the selected time period.
Remove DMP events used for A/B tests
You may, at this stage be wondering what is a DMP event anyway ?! The great news is CCE is maturing, and you no longer need to care ! However, for the curious, here's a quick summary of a huge improvement in core capability for CCE.
DMP Events are custom events that can be generated for a given Page View. Even better, you can stack multiple events per Page View, which is great for data analysis of events that happen more than one time per page view :
- video player interactions: pause/play,
- direct interactions on an interactive module, or gallery
- indirect events such as mouse over / out if they are important for a given analysis
Historically, CCE had 'borrowed' this capability under the hood to help capture and store custom interactions and related statistics. Over time, as CCE evolved we found we needed even more functionality, and varied usage, such as needing statistics for 'all time' in order to better support CCE Use Cases.
Gaining the best from both worlds old and new, the Personalization team have built all new event type and storage solution - Native Event types for CCE. A monumental step in the evolution for the CCE platform, this is formed the basis of the backward compatibility for legacy widgets, along with a raft of new dedicated CCE data tracking, such as the upcoming multi-Product features.

Improvement: Sticky Error messages
Here's an improvement we hope you never see ! Generally speaking, module errors can only occur for custom edited modules, so most User's won't actually notice this update.
Messages are now sticky so you can take action to solve the issue yourself, or reference the message on a support request. Some messages are dismissable, so whilst a simple click will remove them, you should take the time to heed the message, and apply an appropriate fix.
More informative Messaging for 'Recently Read' modules
We had some feedback about confusion over the fixed module Content selection:
'My module is showing blank - maybe it's broken?"
This Content Selection mode shows only content you have read recently, so if you haven't read anything recently, nothing shows up ! Rather than just show some random articles, we feel it's beneficial to remind Module owners, to consider some users may not have read anything when they see this module. Hence its a good idea to consider the various usage/observation scenarios as you are building & managing the module.
To this end, the GUI provides a detailed description of why you may see a blank module preview...
"Please note that this module is setup to only display recently read articles. Take this into account for the visual design, as it may display 0 or more articles. If it delivers empty in this preview, read a few articles on the site in this browser instance, and come back and refresh this page"
|No recently read articles results in your module showing 'blank'||
After reading some articles, your preview will present them here:
Icon consistency for Audience Step
Some minor variations of icon usage crept in when viewing the campaign list as compared to the Audience step. They have now been rectified, with the icons now maintaining consistency between both views:
We hope you get the most out of these new features, and enjoy the continued dedication of the team. Please reach out with any and all feedback - we're always listening !
