How to insert click counter and cache-buster/random number into Cxense Display tags

In order to prevent browser and proxy server caching with Cxense Display third party tags, a cache-busting string needs to be implement a into the tags.

Background

Browser/proxy server caching is used to speed up user experience on the web. The caching mechanism allows information such as images to be stored on the user’s computer/proxy server so that frequently accessed data can be accessed faster. If a user calls for a previously requested web page, the browser will recall the information from the cache and do not need to re-contact the original source. This will result in the third party server not counting an impression and will cause counting discrepancies. This is an issue that can influence negatively on both the Advertiser/Client and the Publisher website. So to prevent caching, a cache-busting/ random number should be implemented into the tags.

Cxense Display ad serving using standard rich media Iframe tags

Example:

<iframe src=”http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?camp=12345;cre=mu;target=_blank;ord=[cachebuster];EASClick=” width=”728” height=”90” scrolling=”no” frameborder=”0” marginheight=”0” marginwidth=”0”><a target=_blank href=”http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?camp=12345;ty=ct”><img src=”http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?camp=12345;cre=img;ord=[cachebuster]” border=”0” alt=”EmediateAd” width=”728” height=”90”></a></iframe>
  1. Exchange [cachebuster] with your random number.•
  2. In order to track clicks follow the procedure below: •
    1. Create a click counter in your ad management system (“http://www.yourclickcounter.com/?redirect=”).
    2. After “;EASClick=” insert “http://www.yourclickcounter.com/?redirect=” into the redirect string.

The resulting tag should look similar to the following:

<iframe src=”http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?camp=12345;cre=mu;target=_blank;ord=yourrandomnumber;EASClick=http://www.yourclickcounter.com/?redirect=” width=”728” height=”90” scrolling=”no” frameborder=”0” marginheight=”0” marginwidth=”0”><a target=_blank href=”http://www.yourclickcounter.com/?redirect=http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?camp=12345;ty=ct”><img src=”http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?camp=12345;cre=img;ord=yourrandomnumber” border=”0” alt=”EmediateAd” width=”728” height=”90”></a></iframe>

Cxense Display ad serving using standard rich media JavaScript tags

Example:

<script src=’http://ad1.emediate.dk/EAS_tag.1.0.js’></script>
<script type=”text/javascript” language=”JavaScript” src=”http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?camp=12345;cre=mu;js=y;target=_blank;ord=[cachebuster];EASClick=”></script>
<noscript>
<a target=_blank href=”http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?camp=12345;ty=ct”><img src=”http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?camp=12345;cre=img;ord=[cachebuster]” border=”0” alt=”EmediateAd” width=”728” height=”90”></a></noscript>

With cachebuster and click counter inserted it should look like this:

<script src=’http://ad1.emediate.dk/EAS_tag.1.0.js’></script>
<script type=”text/javascript” language=”JavaScript” src=”http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?camp=12345;cre=mu;js=y;target=_blank;ord=yourrandomnumber;EASClick=http://www.yourclickcounter.com/?redirect=”></script>
<noscript>
<a target=_blank href=”http://www.yourclickcounter.com/?redirect=http://ad1.emediate.dk/eas?c
